Chapter 19 - The Boardroom Redux

Two weeks later, the atmosphere in the Corbin Industries executive boardroom was electric with anticipation. The board of directors sat in terrified silence, fully aware that a massive shift in power was about to take place.
Garrett stood at the head of the mahogany table, looking stronger and more commanding than ever before. I stood firmly by his side, holding a leather portfolio containing the newly restructured corporate hierarchy.
The doors opened, and a team of federal agents escorted a handcuffed Christopher into the room. He was wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, completely stripped of his tailored suits and his arrogant swagger. He had been brought in under a federal subpoena to formally testify and sign over the illicit holding company Evelyn had created for him.
Christopher kept his eyes glued to the floor, too humiliated to look at me. The man who had spent years making me feel worthless was now a broken criminal, forced to kneel before the empire he had tried to steal.
Garrett coldly instructed the lawyers to finalize the asset transfer. Within minutes, the billions of dollars Evelyn had attempted to hide were officially absorbed back into the Corbin estate. Christopher signed the documents with a shaking hand, officially sealing his own fate and a lengthy prison sentence.
As the guards dragged Christopher out of the room, Garrett turned his attention to the board of directors. He announced that the era of corruption, backroom deals, and familial backstabbing was permanently over.
He opened the portfolio I handed him and passed out the new executive contracts. He fired half the board on the spot—anyone who had shown even a hint of loyalty to Douglas or Evelyn was immediately escorted from the building by security.
Garrett then publicly named me as the permanent Chief Operating Officer of Corbin Industries. A few of the older, traditional board members shifted uncomfortably, but a single, sharp look from Garrett silenced any objections.
I took my seat at the right hand of the billionaire, opening my laptop and immediately launching into the quarterly strategy. I directed the meeting with flawless precision, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that I wasn't just a survivor; I was a brilliant strategist who had earned her place at the top of the food chain.

When the meeting concluded, the remaining board members practically tripped over themselves to shake my hand and pledge their absolute loyalty.
As the room finally emptied, leaving just Garrett and me alone in the sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the weight of the last year finally lifted from my shoulders. The empire was clean. The enemies were vanquished. The nightmare was truly over.
