Chapter 8 - The Empire Reclaimed

The absolute silence in the boardroom was shattered by Garrett’s booming, authoritative voice.

He formally announced that the sale of his company was completely canceled, effective immediately.

Douglas stammered wildly, desperately trying to claim that Garrett was mentally unfit and experiencing a psychotic episode.

I stepped forward and threw the forged medical proxy onto the center of the mahogany table for everyone to see.

I also placed the encrypted thumb drive next to it, announcing that it contained proof of Douglas's illegal kickbacks.

The board members began whispering frantically amongst themselves, realizing they were on the verge of a massive federal scandal.

Christopher stood up abruptly, pointing an accusatory finger at me while trying to save his own sinking ship.

He told the board that I was nothing more than a disgruntled, bitter ex-wife trying to ruin his corporate negotiations.

Garrett silenced Christopher with a single, icy glare that carried the weight of a true billionaire.

Garrett declared that I was not just his caregiver, but the newly appointed Chief of Operations for his entire estate.

He then signaled to the security guards stationed outside the room, who had always been secretly loyal to him.

Two massive guards entered the room and firmly grabbed Douglas by the arms, dragging him away from the executive table.

Gertrude burst into tears, realizing that her days of wealth and manipulation were permanently over.

Garrett ordered Christopher to leave his property immediately, promising that ApexBio Solutions would face a brutal federal investigation by tomorrow.

Christopher looked at me with pure venom, but he was smart enough to recognize a total defeat.

He grabbed his expensive leather briefcase and practically ran out of the room like a terrified coward.

The remaining board members quickly fell back into line, pledging their absolute loyalty to Garrett in order to save their jobs.

Garrett dismissed the meeting, finally sitting down in the head chair as his legs began to shake from pure exhaustion.

I rushed to his side, handing him a glass of water and checking his pulse with genuine care.

He took my hand, his thumb gently tracing my knuckles as he looked up at me with deep affection.

He whispered that he could never have survived this nightmare without my strength and bravery.

We were entirely alone in the boardroom, the reality of our massive victory finally settling in.

Then, the heavy doors opened again, and Evelyn walked in holding a thick, manila envelope.
