Chapter 13 - LIVIA’S FIRST HAIRCUT AFTER

Livia refused hair salons for nine months.

We did not force her.

Her hair grew unevenly.

The shaved side became soft stubble, then short curls, then enough length to blend badly.

At home, we trimmed only what she allowed.

Then one morning at four, she said:

“I want princess hair.”

We found a small salon recommended by Dr. Morris.

One stylist.

No buzzing tools.

No surprise.

Before touching her hair, the stylist asked:

“Can I comb?”

Livia nodded.

“Can I spray water?”

Nod.

“Scissors?”

Long pause.

Then yes.

I sat across the room because she asked me not to hover.

Painful.

Healthy.

The stylist shaped the uneven growth into a short bob.

When she finished, Livia looked in the mirror.

“Pretty?”

I answered too quickly.

“Yes.”

Then corrected.

“Do you like it?”

She smiled.

May you like

“Yes.”

That was the question.
