Chapter 25 - BIANCA’S LAST LETTER

Bianca developed breast cancer in her late fifties.

Treatable initially.

Then recurrence years later.

She did not tell me.

Livia learned through Salvatore after Bianca entered hospice.

Livia was thirty.

She chose to visit.

I offered to come.

“No.”

Good.

Her meeting belonged to her.

Later she told me what happened.

Bianca was thin.

Hair short after treatment.

That detail frightened Livia more than expected.

Bianca noticed.

“Ironic?”

Livia said:

“Don’t.”

Bianca apologized.

Good.

Then Bianca asked:

“Did your hair grow back the way you wanted?”

Livia answered:

“It grew back mine.”

That was better.

Bianca cried.

Then:

“I am sorry.”

Again.

Livia said:

“I know.”

Not:

I forgive you.

Not necessary.

Then Bianca asked:

“Did I ruin weddings for you?”

Livia smiled.

“I’m not married.”

“Smart.”

They both laughed.

Bianca died months later.

No final twist.

No secret money.
