The investigation was nearly complete.
She had one final question.
“Mr. Mercer, how are things?”
Grant looked at Lily.
She was building a tower from wooden blocks.
“Messy.”
Dana laughed.
“That may be a good sign.”
Grant smiled.
“It is.”
“Are you working?”
“Less.”
“Are you spending more time with Lily?”
“Yes.”
“Are you listening?”
Grant paused.
“Yes.”
Dana's voice softened.
“Good.”
After the call, Grant sat beside Lily.
She handed him a block.
“Daddy, this goes here.”
He placed it.
“No.”
“What?”
“Wrong.”
Grant looked at the tower.
“You're the boss?”
“Yes.”
