She hired lawyers.
She released a statement.
She claimed the incident had been exaggerated.
She said she had only been teaching Lily responsibility.
She said Stallone had assaulted her without justification.
And then she made the move Grant feared most.
She filed for emergency custody.
Her claim was simple.
Grant was unstable.
He had invited a dangerous celebrity into the home.
He had allowed violence to occur in front of Lily.
He had failed to provide consistent parental supervision.
The accusations were painful because some contained pieces of truth.
Grant had failed.
But Vivian wanted the court to believe his failure made her innocent.
Claire Donnelly, the attorney representing Grant, warned him:
“She is going to use your guilt against you.”
Grant stared at the paperwork.
“What if she's right?”
Claire looked at him.
“About what?”
“That I'm not the father Lily deserves.”
Claire was silent for a moment.
“Then become better.”
Grant looked up.
“That simple?”
“No.”
