Chapter 16 - The New House Grant eventually sold the mansion.

Not because he hated it.
Because Lily did.
She had stopped sleeping comfortably there.
So Grant bought a smaller house.
No marble ballroom.
No crystal chandeliers.
No endless rooms.
Just a backyard.
A kitchen.
A bedroom with crooked shelves.
And walls covered in Lily's drawings.
On the first night, Lily walked through the house.
“Is this ours?”
Grant nodded.
“Yes.”
“Forever?”
He smiled.
“As long as you want.”
She looked around.
Then pointed toward the empty hallway.
“Can I draw there?”
Grant didn't hesitate.
“Please.”
She ran for the crayons.
Grant stood alone for a moment.
Then he heard laughter.
May you like
Real laughter.
The kind that didn't need permission.
