Chapter 3 - Sixteen Seconds The ambulance arrived four minutes later.

Police followed.

The elegant mansion was suddenly filled with uniforms, medical equipment, shattered glass, and frightened whispers.

Grant was conscious again.

His first question was not about Lily.

“Who recorded that?”

Thomas Bell, his closest friend and business partner, stared at him.

“Grant.”

“What?”

“Your daughter is standing over there.”

Grant looked.

Lily was wrapped in a cashmere shawl.

She was staring at him.

Waiting.

Grant opened his arms.

She did not move.

That hurt more than his bruised ribs.

A detective named Luis Ortega approached Stallone.

“You'll need to give a statement.”

Stallone nodded.

He did not defend himself.

He did not blame Vivian.

He simply described what he had seen.

Then Ortega asked the question that would follow him for months.

“You could have walked away.”

Stallone looked toward Lily.

“Yes.”

“But you didn't.”

“No.”

Meanwhile, a guest handed Ortega a phone.

“There’s another video.”

“How long?”

“Longer than the one online.”

Ortega watched the screen.

His expression changed.

The footage had started before Stallone entered.

It showed Lily spilling the first glass.

It showed Vivian forcing her to kneel.

It showed Grant watching.

And then—

it showed Vivian pouring the second glass.

Ortega paused the video.

He looked toward the Mercer family.

For the first time that night, this was no longer simply a fight between adults.

There was a child at the center of it.

And the video was only sixteen minutes long.

But sixteen minutes was long enough to change a family forever.
