Chapter 17 - Vivian Returns Two years passed.

Vivian requested supervised visitation.
Grant was nervous.
So was Lily.
The first meeting lasted twenty minutes.
Vivian arrived with a social worker.
She looked older.
Less polished.
More human.
Lily held Grant's hand.
Vivian knelt several feet away.
“Hi, Lily.”
Lily didn't answer.
Vivian swallowed.
“I brought you something.”
She placed a small box on the table.
Inside was a photograph.
Lily's mother.
Vivian had found it among her belongings.
“I shouldn't have taken this from you,” she said.
Lily stared at the photograph.
Grant remained silent.
Vivian looked at him.
“I was angry.”
Grant said nothing.
“I thought if Lily stopped looking backward, she'd accept me.”
Her voice cracked.
“I was wrong.”
Lily finally spoke.
“Why did you throw Bunny away?”
Vivian closed her eyes.
“I thought I was teaching you.”
“Was it good?”
“No.”
Lily thought.
Then she picked up the photograph.
“Okay.”
