Chapter 12 - The Golden Anchor

Three months later, the cold winter winds blew across the harbor of Boston, but inside the private executive suite of the Vance Global Headquarters, the air was warm, smelling of fresh flowers and expensive leather.

The top floor offered a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Boston skyline and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Ethan Vance stood by the soaring glass window, wearing an impeccable charcoal three-piece suit. He looked strong, powerful, and remarkably at peace.

The double mahogany doors swept open.

Elena stepped into the office, wearing an elegant dark-blue tailored dress that emphasized her graceful figure, her dark hair styled into soft waves over her shoulders. She carried a sleek leather portfolio under her arm.

Behind her toddled six-year-old Noah, looking incredibly handsome in a small grey suit, dragging a plush velvet bear by one leg.

Noah ran across the thick carpet, throwing his arms around Ethan’s leg.

Noah: "Daddy! Look at my new office!"

Ethan laughed warmly, picking his son up into his arms, tossing him gently into the air before holding him close against his chest.

Ethan: "It’s a very big office, Noah. What do you think?"

Noah pointed out the window toward a massive container ship entering the harbor. "I want that big boat!"

Ethan smiled, looking over Noah’s shoulder at Elena, who was standing near the edge of the desk, looking at him with a warm, bright affection.

Elena: "The board of directors just unanimously ratified the new charter, Ethan. The foundation for orphaned children in Chicago is officially funded."

Ethan set Noah down on a soft leather sofa near the window, giving the boy a wooden toy boat to play with, before walking over to stand beside Elena.

Ethan: "You accomplished in three months what my legal team couldn't do in three years, Elena."

Elena smiled faintly, looking down at the portfolio in her hand.

Elena: "I had a very good reason to get it done."

Ethan stepped closer, his broad frame standing near her, his hand reaching out to touch the soft fabric of her sleeve. His hazel eyes were intense, clear, and filled with an unspoken emotion that had grown stronger with every passing day.

Ethan: "Stay with us, Elena. Don't go back to Chicago."

Elena looked up into his eyes, her breath catching slightly at his proximity.

Elena: "Ethan... my work with the trust is finished."

May you like

Ethan reached out, gently cupping her jaw with his large, warm palm, his thumb resting near her cheekbone where the tiny scar from the collapsed glass had completely healed.

Ethan: "Your work with the trust might be finished, Elena... but our family isn't."
