Daniel was seventy-nine.

He had begun forgetting things.

Nothing dramatic.

A meeting.

A parking space.

A story repeated twice.

Noah wanted to control the situation.

Daniel noticed.

“Don't organize my decline before it happens.”

Noah laughed nervously.

“I want to help.”

“I know.”

“Then?”

“Ask.”

The word stayed with Noah.

Ask.

Not decide.

Not control.

Ask.
