Chapter 9 - The Family Meeting Margaret demanded a family meeting.
Daniel agreed.
The entire Carter family gathered inside the library.
Margaret stood before the fireplace like a queen who refused to acknowledge the kingdom had collapsed.
“You are destroying this family.”
Daniel placed a folder on the table.
“No.”
He opened it.
“The people who stole from the foundation destroyed it.”
One document.
Then another.
Then another.
Financial transfers.
Fake emails.
DNA results.
Claire's evidence.
Henry's audit.
Margaret watched her world disappear page by page.
Finally she snapped.
“Henry had no right to give control to an infant!”
Silence.
Everyone looked at her.
Daniel slowly stood.
“You knew.”
Margaret realized her mistake.
Robert Carter, Daniel's uncle, whispered:
“You knew Noah was yours.”
Margaret's face hardened.
“He was never supposed to control everything.”
Daniel answered:
“He doesn't.”
