Chapter 5 - The Recording They watched the video once.
Margaret carrying Noah toward the staircase.
Her voice.
“You have taken everything from me.”
Noah cried.
“You weren't supposed to exist.”
Daniel's hands tightened around the table.
Then came the sentence that broke him.
“A bastard like you doesn't belong in this house.”
Margaret's foot moved.
The recording stopped before the fall.
No one spoke.
The video went to prosecutors.
Margaret was arrested.
But the arrest did not end the Carter family's war.
It began it.
Her attorney claimed Daniel was unstable.
Grief-stricken.
Violent.
Manipulated.
Then Margaret filed an emergency petition challenging Noah's position in the family trust.
Daniel stared at the document.
One sentence caught his attention.
“The respondent has historically expressed doubts regarding the child's parentage.”
Daniel had never written those words.
Someone had.
Using his name.
Someone had created emails questioning whether Noah was his son.
And the timestamps went back months.
Even before Claire died.
