Chapter 16 - SOMEWHERE OVER THE ATLANTIC Julian and Eleanor flew to Switzerland.

Leo remained under Marcus’s protection.
For hours, neither spoke.
Finally Julian broke the silence.
“Why did you come back that night?”
Eleanor looked at him.
“Leo needed me.”
Julian nodded.
“And me?”
She looked through the airplane window.
Clouds stretched beneath them.
“I hated you in that moment.”
“I deserved it.”
“But I still loved you.”
Julian closed his eyes.
“That almost makes it worse.”
“It should.”
He slowly reached toward her hand.
Then stopped.
For once, he did not assume he was entitled to comfort.
Eleanor noticed.
After several seconds, she moved her fingers.
Their hands touched.
