Chapter 6 - RUN WITH LEO Arthur’s plan was brutally simple.
Julian dies.
Maria takes the blame.
Eleanor disappears.
Leo vanishes.
Thomas Sterling becomes the grieving brother forced to save the family empire.
But Arthur underestimated one thing.
A poisoned father.
Julian launched himself forward.
He hit Arthur at the knees.
“RUN!”
Eleanor grabbed Leo.
She ran.
A gunshot exploded behind her.
Then another.
She wanted to turn around.
Every part of her wanted to know whether Julian was alive.
But Leo was crying against her chest.
For once, love demanded that she keep moving.
Eleanor reached the underground service tunnel beneath the estate.
She ran barefoot through darkness.
At the far exit, she emerged beside an abandoned maintenance road.
A black SUV waited.
The driver lowered the window.
“Eleanor Vance?”
Nobody had used her maiden name in years.
She backed away.
“Who are you?”
“Marcus Kane.”
“Who sent you?”
Marcus looked toward the mansion.
“Someone who knew this night was coming.”
“Who?”
He unlocked the passenger door.
“If you want Leo alive tomorrow morning, get in.”
Eleanor tightened her grip around her son.
Then Marcus added:
May you like
“And if you want to know why your mother didn’t really die fifteen years ago, stop wasting time.”
Eleanor stopped breathing.
