Chapter 19 - THE LAST VISIT Many years later, Richard requested one final meeting.

Sarah almost refused.
But Owen surprised her.
"Go."
"Why?"
"Because maybe he needs to say something."
Sarah agreed.
They met in a quiet rehabilitation center.
Richard looked older.
His hair had turned gray.
The arrogance was gone.
He walked with a cane.
He looked at Owen.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Then Richard said:
"I'm sorry."
Owen watched him.
Richard continued.
"I don't expect you to forget."
"I won't."
Richard nodded.
"You shouldn't."
Silence.
Then Owen said:
"But I don't hate you."
Richard's eyes filled with tears.
"Why?"
Owen shrugged.
"Because I don't want to carry you with me."
Richard lowered his head.
Those words hurt more than any punishment.
Because they were freedom.
Owen had survived.
He had grown.
He had built a life Richard could never take away.
Before leaving, Owen stopped.
"Mr. Miller?"
Richard looked up.
"Yes?"
"I'm going to build prosthetics someday."
A faint smile appeared on Richard's face.
"Then build something great."
Owen nodded.
"I will."
Outside, Sarah waited.
She didn't ask what they discussed.
She didn't need to.
May you like
She could see it in Owen's eyes.
He was free.
