Chapter 6 - THE NIGHT GOES VIRAL By midnight, the video had escaped the gala.

Someone had uploaded it.

Then someone else shared it.

Then thousands of people watched it.

By sunrise, the footage had spread across social media.

The headline was everywhere:

BILLIONAIRE CAUGHT KNOCKING DISABLED CHILD TO THE FLOOR AT CHARITY GALA.

Richard's name became one of the most discussed topics in the city.

News trucks arrived outside his company headquarters.

Investors demanded answers.

Board members began emergency meetings.

His carefully manufactured public image collapsed in less than twenty-four hours.

But Sarah wasn't watching the news.

She was sitting beside Owen in a hospital examination room.

The doctor gently examined his back.

"Nothing appears fractured," she said. "But he has significant bruising."

Sarah closed her eyes.

Relief washed through her.

Owen looked at her.

"Can we go home?"

"Yes."

"Can I still have the blue cupcake?"

Sarah laughed through tears.

"Absolutely."

Owen smiled.

Then his expression became serious.

"Mom?"

"What?"

"Why did that man hate me?"

Sarah had no easy answer.

She pulled him close.

"Some people forget that being powerful doesn't make them better than anyone else."

Owen thought about that.

"Are we poor?"

Sarah froze.

"Why?"

"Because he looked at us like we were."

She swallowed.

"We may not have as much money as he does."

Owen nodded.

"But we're rich in other ways."

"Like what?"

Sarah smiled.

"Like love."

Owen hugged her.

Outside the hospital window, the first sunlight of morning appeared.

Neither of them knew that Eleanor Vance was about to make a phone call that would change their future.
