Chapter 7 - ELEANOR'S PROMISE Eleanor visited Sarah the next afternoon.

She arrived carrying flowers and a small blue gift box.
Owen opened it.
Inside was a silver medal.
On it were the words:
COURAGE IS STRONGER THAN FEAR.
Owen stared at it.
"Is this for me?"
Eleanor smiled.
"It belongs to you."
Sarah watched from the kitchen.
"You don't have to do this."
Eleanor looked at her.
"Yes, I do."
She sat down.
"I've spent thirty years raising money for children with disabilities."
Sarah nodded.
"Last night reminded me why."
Eleanor explained that her foundation would cover Owen's future prosthetic care.
Not as charity.
As an investment in a child who deserved opportunity.
Sarah immediately shook her head.
"I can't accept that."
"Why?"
"Because I've spent my whole life trying to take care of my son myself."
Eleanor smiled.
"Then don't think of it as someone taking care of him."
She leaned forward.
"Think of it as someone standing beside you."
Sarah's eyes filled.
For years, she had carried everything alone.
She hadn't realized how heavy that burden had become.
Eleanor continued.
"And there's something else."
She handed Sarah an envelope.
Inside was an invitation.
A medical conference.
One of the country's leading orthopedic specialists had seen the viral footage.
He wanted to meet Owen.
Sarah stared at the invitation.
"Why?"
"Because he believes Owen may be a candidate for a new generation of athletic prosthetics."
Owen overheard.
"Does that mean I could run?"
Sarah looked at her son.
Eleanor smiled.
"Maybe."
Owen's eyes lit up.
May you like
For the first time, something beautiful began growing from the ashes of that terrible night.
Hope.
