Chapter 8 - Someone Came Home We reached the house.

Lily was alive.
Noah had protected her.
The intruder had escaped.
He had worn a gray jacket and mask.
He kept asking for the card.
But he left something behind.
A business card.
ELLIOT PRICE.
Chief Financial Officer.
On the back were five words:
STOP BEFORE YOUR KIDS PAY FOR IT.
Ruiz stared at it.
"Either Elliot is unbelievably stupid..."
"Or someone wants me to believe it's Elliot."
"Exactly."
Then our corporate attorney arrived.
Susan Bell.
She brought documents Claire had changed six weeks before disappearing.
Claire had rewritten her trust.
If she died before Noah turned eighteen, her voting shares would pass to him.
I would become trustee.
Together, our combined voting power would exceed fifty percent.
That explained everything.
If Claire were legally dead, Noah inherited control.
If Claire remained alive but unreachable, someone could keep using her digital signature.
Susan looked at me.
"There's more."
She placed another file on the table.
"Claire's digital signature has been used eleven times since June 14."
My blood ran cold.
"By whom?"
"That's the problem."
Susan hesitated.
"The most recent authorization approved the sale of a seventy-million-dollar subsidiary."
"To whom?"
She slid the paper toward me.
The buyer was a company I had never heard of.
Its registered agent was:
Vanessa Carter.

My wife had not simply lied to me.
She had been dismantling my family's company one piece at a time.
