Chapter 15 - THE MONEY TRAIL

Elliot escaped through the hospital loading dock, abandoning a car filled with bank records.
Seventy million dollars had moved through shell companies, but the trail exposed something stranger: Elliot had been paying Voss, while Voss had been blackmailing him.
They were partners who expected betrayal.
Claire's stolen signatures should have authorized the transfers. They did not. Her trust required a physical authentication token.
Elliot had cloned the software but never possessed the original device.
On Claire's encrypted drive was one final note:
THE PERSON THEY WILL NEVER SEARCH IS THE PERSON WHO HAS IT.
Noah studied an old photograph. Claire stood behind her mother, Evelyn, fastening a green handbag.
“Grandma,” he said.
Evelyn lived in a memory-care facility. Dementia stole dates, names, and entire seasons from her, but she still asked for Claire every Sunday.
Daniel called the facility.
The nurse sounded confused. “Your wife took Mrs. Carter on an outing an hour ago. She said you approved it.”
