Chapter 27 - THE HUNT FOR VOSS
Voss fled north in a stolen truck. Police tracked his purchases toward Blackwater Lake.
Daniel knew where he was going before Ruiz did.
The boathouse held Robert Carter's private safe. If Voss had kept insurance against Elliot, it would be there.
A storm rolled across the lake as officers surrounded the property. Daniel remained behind the line until he saw a light in the boathouse—and Noah's bicycle lying in the mud.
Noah had followed a message sent from Claire's old account: I can prove your mother tried to escape.
Daniel ran.
Inside, Voss held Noah at gunpoint beside an open safe. It contained Claire's bloody sleeve, Hale's original notes, and a second camera.
“I never killed her,” Voss said. “I kept evidence because guilty men pay forever.”
“Let the boy go.”
“Your father once said children inherit debts.”

Darkness swallowed them.
