Chapter 24 - THE MAUSOLEUM
Rain silvered the cemetery stones.
Behind a loose marble panel in Robert Carter's mausoleum, Ruiz found Mara Cole's urn, the missing ledger, and a camera wrapped in oilcloth.
Vanessa had hidden everything beside the man whose sins started the chain.
Daniel carried Mara's urn out first. She had been used as a prop in someone else's death. He promised she would be buried under her own name.
The camera contained silent footage from the lake house.
Claire lay on the mattress. Hale treated her, then left. She woke, removed the IV, and tried to stand.
Vanessa entered. Claire reached for her.
Vanessa wept but backed away. Then she walked out.
Forty-one minutes later, Elliot came in carrying a pillow.
Daniel turned from the screen.
Ruiz stopped the video.
There would be no more uncertainty. Hale had hidden Claire. Vanessa had abandoned her. Elliot had murdered her.
