Chapter 29 - CLAIRE'S LAST HOUR
Daniel, Noah, and Ruiz watched together.
Claire woke after Hale left. Vanessa entered, begging for the location of the ledger. Claire refused.
“Daniel will see you,” Claire whispered. “And when he does, you will finally have to see yourself.”
Vanessa backed away in tears.
After she left, Claire dragged herself toward the camera.
“Noah,” she said, knowing the lens was there. “None of this is your fault.”
Elliot entered and demanded the token. Claire smiled through pain.
“You will never find it.”
He lifted the pillow.
Ruiz paused the recording before the end. Noah had heard enough.
The room remained silent until he asked, “Was she afraid?”
Daniel answered honestly. “Yes.”
“Was she brave?”
“At the same time.”
Noah took his uncle's hand.
The footage did not return Claire to them. It gave them something smaller and harder: the truth of who she had been in her final moments.
