Chapter 1 - The Dress She Ruined My husband stood in the doorway and watched another woman destroy my dress.

My husband stood in the doorway and watched another woman destroy my dress.
Not spill a little wine.

Not accidentally brush against me.

Camille grabbed my hair with both hands and poured an entire bottle of liquid foundation down the front of the white silk gown I was supposed to wear while accepting the biggest professional honor of my life.

The cold makeup soaked through the fabric.

My scalp burned.

For several seconds, I simply stared at myself in the mirror.

Twenty minutes.

That was all the time I had before eight hundred guests would be seated downstairs.

The Sterling Civic Foundation was honoring Harbor House Initiative, the nonprofit I had spent seven years building from nothing.

Tonight was supposed to be my night.

Instead, Camille stood behind me smiling at my reflection.

“Let’s see how beautiful you look now,” she whispered.

Then I looked at Daniel.

My husband.

Perfect tuxedo.

Perfect hair.

Perfect expression.

He looked uncomfortable.

But he didn't look surprised.

That was what broke something inside me.

If he had been horrified, he would have pulled her away.

If he had been shocked, he would have called security.

Instead, he only sighed.

“Camille, that was unnecessary.”

Unnecessary.

Not cruel.

Not insane.

Not get your hands off my wife.

Just unnecessary.

For six months, I had wondered what happened to the man I married.

That single word gave me my answer.

I turned slowly.

“Who are you?”

Daniel looked away.

May you like

Camille smiled.

And somewhere deep inside me, the last fragile piece of our marriage finally died.
