Chapter 27 - ForgivenessI didn't forgive Daniel that day.

Forgiveness didn't arrive like lightning.
It came slowly.
In small moments.
A phone call.
An apology.
A boundary respected.
A promise kept.
A year passed.
Then one evening, Daniel and I stood outside Harbor House watching children run through the courtyard.
He said:
“I don't expect anything.”
I looked at him.
“I know.”
“I just wanted you to know I'm grateful.”
“For what?”
“For giving me a chance to become someone better than the man you married.”
I smiled.
“Maybe that's all forgiveness is.”
He looked at me.
“What?”
“Not forgetting.”
May you like
I took a breath.
“Just refusing to let the past decide what happens next.”
