Her hands were shaking.
“Why were you with Daniel?”
She looked at me.
“Because Eleanor wanted me close to him.”
Daniel's face hardened.
“You were using me?”
“Yes.”
The answer was immediate.
“You were supposed to keep him distracted.”
“From what?”
“Arthur.”
Daniel stared at her.
Camille continued.
“Eleanor believed Arthur trusted you more than anyone. She needed to know whether he had told you anything.”
“And you?”
“I fell in love with you.”
Silence.
Daniel looked devastated.
Not because he loved her.
Because he finally understood that even his affair had been manipulated.
Camille wiped away a tear.
“I was a fool.”
I looked at her.
“No.”
I shook my head.
“You were a participant.”
