The locket.
The Union Station evidence.

Vanessa's phone.
Victor's financial records.
Then Claire testified.
She described Room 317.
The medication.
The locked doors.
The threats.
The years of pretending not to remember.
The courtroom was silent.
Margaret testified next.
She admitted signing the false statement.

The judge asked whether she expected forgiveness.

Margaret looked at Claire.

The judge invalidated Claire's forged surrender.
The trust was restored.
Victor's assets were frozen.
The pension fund received priority.
Then Samuel Ortiz, a retired factory worker, approached me outside.

“Don't save their name,” he said.

That sentence changed my decision.
