Daniel froze Victor's company accounts.
I stood in the hidden room holding the Silver Pines payment record.
Twenty-four years.
Someone had paid for something every single month.
Reyes sent officers to the listed address.
Silver Pines was empty.
The sign had been removed.
The records were gone.
But the tire tracks behind the building were fresh.
Daniel wanted me to stay inside Harrington House.
I refused.
“This started with my mother.”
He looked at me.
“You don't even know if she's alive.”
“I know someone has been paying to keep her hidden.”
That was enough.
We moved the evidence into Daniel's office.
Michael explained the trust.
Claire had been named the primary beneficiary.
After she disappeared, Charles produced documents claiming she had surrendered her shares.
Michael had suspected the signature was forged.
But Charles controlled the board.
Victor controlled the money.
Fear controlled everyone else.
At 2:13 a.m., the greenhouse alarm sounded.
A shadow moved outside.
Someone ran between the hedges.
Inside the greenhouse, documents were burning.
A metal lockbox had been damaged.
I opened it.
Inside was Claire's hospital bracelet.
The same night I was born.
Beneath it was the Harrington Star.
I lifted the necklace.
The emerald centerpiece caught the emergency light.
Something clicked.
A tiny key fell from the clasp.
