Chapter 23 - WHAT MARGARET FINALLY ADMITTED We found Margaret at an old church outside the city.
She had gone there willingly.
She wanted to confess.
She told us the final truth.
The night Claire disappeared, Margaret had followed Charles.
She had seen Claire fighting.
She had seen Victor.
She had seen the car.
But she had also seen someone else.
Richard Vale.
He had been the one who arranged Silver Pines.
He had forged the medical records.
He had forged the death certificate.
And he had created the shell companies.
Victor had only managed them.
Margaret had known his name.
She had protected it.
Why?
Because Richard threatened Daniel.
“If I spoke, he would destroy my son.”
Claire stared at her.
“You sacrificed me for him.”
Margaret nodded.
“Yes.”
Claire cried.
Not because she was surprised.
Because she had finally heard the words she had needed for twenty-four years.
No excuses.
No lies.
Just the truth.
Then Margaret handed me a key.
“The last door.”
I looked at the key.
“What does it open?”
